Coadministration has not been studied and is not recommended. Eslicarbazepine is partly eliminated unchanged renally and partly glucuronidated by UGT2B4. Eslicarbazepine is a weak/moderate inducer of CYP3A4 and UGTs and therefore is expected to reduce bictegravir exposure, leading to loss of therapeutic effect and possible development of resistance. An alternative anticonvulsant should be considered. Eslicarbazepine was shown to have no clinically significant effect on digoxin (a P-glycoprotein substrate) therefore no significant effect is expected on tenofovir alafenamide. No interaction is expected with emtricitabine.
